Once upon a time, there was a happy village. The people were rich, educated and healthy. They had enough food and many servants at their homes.
There was one health center at the center of the village. It had a wise and old pediatrician.
All the mothers would meet at the health center to gossip. Whenever the Pediatrician would walk in, they would gather around him and complain that “My child is not taking food. She has no appetite. Please do some thing.”
The Pediatrician saw that all these kids were healthy, active and playful. Their mothers had enough servants to do every chores. They had no household problem to keep them busy. That is the reason his medicine was apparently having no effect on their kids. But what could he do ? After all, he was a government doctor. He could not refuse them. neither he could charge them.
One day, the Pediatrician gathered all the mothers for a meeting. He told them a joke and everyone roared in laughter.
After a couple of minutes, he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled.
When he told the same joke for the third time no one laughed anymore.
The wise man smiled and said:
“You can’t laugh at the same joke over and over. So why are you always crying about the same problem?”
Moral of the story:
Be careful to recognise any idle mind among your patients. An Idle mind is a devil’s workshop.
