UK lifts all Covid Restrictions on 19 July, 2021.
Is it a Correct decision ?
R.K.Mahapatra.
As on the midnight of 21 July 2021, the top 5 countries with the highest new cases in last 24 hours are: ( in that order)
- UK
- USA
- India
- Indonesia
- Brazil.
USA has a 200% increase in the infection rate over last week. 83% of them are genetically sequenced to be Delta variant. We now know that the Delta variant is much more transmissible ( higher viral load). It also infects within 29 hours of entry. That is you have already infected your contact before you can be aware that you have harboured the Delta in your nose.
Freedom Day: On July 19, 2021 UK has finally lifted all the Covid Restrictions, and has climbed the ignominious ladder to the top in 2 days. Wah !
Boris Johnson, the UK PM who is currently isolating himself famously declared that, “UK has now two third of its adult population fully vaccinated.”
We know that the under-18 population of UK is yet to be vaccinated. That leaves roughly 50% of population susceptible to the virus. What they didn’t anticipate is that the virus will mutate into a more virulent strain mean time.
UK was under its third lock down from Jan 6 to July 19. But on March 8 it relaxed the “Stay at Home” order to “Stay Local” order. Schools were opened. Parks and small gatherings are allowed as a preparation to remove the lockdown completely around July.
It was a good decision to stop the economy from bleeding as far as Alpha and beta variants are concerned. Unfortunately, the Delta variant must have entered this nation of islands around this time. But the opinions from sister islands created enormous pressure on the PM.
You can only overlook the Delta factor at your own peril.
UK is learning a difficult lesson.
Let us see what we can learn from this British Experiment.
