Paul Samuelson

Paul Samuelson- the greatest economist of America

“In 1940, Paul Samuelson joined Harvard on an instructorship. In those days You could be disqualified for a job if you were either smart or Jewish or Keynesian.

And Paul Samuelson was ‘Smart, Jewish, Keynesian.’

The chair of Harvard made it known that during his time he won’t be the first chair to hire a Jewish economist at Harvard. After this, Samuelson had no other option but to leave Harvard to join MIT .

In MIT, Paul promised to build the best economics department in the world. And MIT’s economic department became the best in the country under him.

He wrote many of the basic theorems that became the basis for the canon in neo-classical economics. Today he is considered as one of the fathers of modern economics.

It is strange but true that he was rejected by Harvard, because he was a Jew. Harvard’s loss became MIT’s gain.

The revenge was complete when Samuelson
became the
first American to win the Nobel prize in Economics.

Paul Samuelson had the best revenge in his life time when the caste and birth order was abolished in the selection process of Harvard.
