The FedEx story

The FedEx story.
In the year 1962, one Yale student named Fed Smith had submitted his paper in economics. It was titled “overnight delivery service in a computer information age”. It spoke of delivering package by air. In those days, courier delivery from one coast of the US to the other used to take weeks.
But his professor didn’t buy the idea of purchasing Boeing jets to deliver package on the same day to any where in the world. Highly preposterous. No wonder Smith received a C for the paper.
Undettered the tenacious Smith who had lost his father when he was just 4 years old, tried his idea on his own. He could only manage to raise $11 million to float his own delivery company, the FedEx.

 … …

Today, FedEx is estimated to be worth in the vicinity of $25-$35 billion, with Smith himself currently worth around $2 billion.
FedEx Express is currently the world’s second largest airline in terms of number of planes, with 697 planes to date with an additional 49 planes ordered.
