Madhubabu earned his millions by defending Rajahs and princes against British administration. But he would never fight against a poor farmer.
Madhubabu had seen poverty from close quarter’s. Once a Mahanta who wanted to usurp a farmer’s land approached him. He has already retained 2 to 3 top lawyers. But in those days if you had not retained Madhubabu in Cuttack Bar, probably you were not rich enough. It was a symbol of affordability.
Madhubabu examined the papers.
“why do you want to deprive a poor odia family their ‘roji, roti’ in the name of god. Poor farmer, how will his children survive if you take away their pakhal kamsa( rice bowl) ?” He asked.
The indignant mahant went back and hired all the top lawyers for him.
Madhubabu took up the case of poor farmer free and won the case single handedly against all the top lawyers of cuttack bar.
This case established him as the uncrowned king of Cuttack Bar.
