Injured On Duty

  1. ‘Depersonalisation of a Doctor’:
The Development of a negative, callous and cynical attitude towards patients and their concerns developing over the years of srevice in The IRMS.

We have read about ‘3rd year syndrome’ in medical student career.
Let me describe a new one mostly among senior doctors of IRMS which may be termed as ‘Depersonalisation of Service Doctor’.

Of course no workman quarells with his tools. Not without reasons. Few of the reasons here are system generated. Can it be prevented ?

1. One major item is Reduced Sense of Personal Accomplishment in the system.
2. Bureaucracy dictates the course of a physician’s career.

Unfortunately Whoever sits in the chair share the same complete apathy towards core duty of a clinician. Why blame the non medical colleagues ?

3. A complaint is always knocking at the door.

Increased hostility among patients and their family, keeps doctors always on their toes. A fear of litigation hampers their personal and professional life.

4. The increasing burden of documentation

Documentation & patient communication takes its own toll.

5. Increasing digitalization :

Many of the senior members are not able to keep pace with fast-growing digitization of healthcare sector, either it be patient communication, EHR or professional networking.

The result: One-third of IRMS end up among the walking wounded.
A sad spectacle. Preventable.
