Stories I liked
Collected & retold
A man who has gone out of town comes back and finds that his house is on fire.
It was one of the most beautiful houses in the town, and the man loved the house the most! Many were ready to give double the price for the house, but he had never agreed for any price and now it is burning to ashes in front of his eyes.
And thousands of people have gathered, but nothing can be done. The man clutched his heart and slumped down in pain.
“Oh my house has caught fire!”
At that very moment his son comes running and whispers in his ear:
“Don’t be worried. I had sold it yesterday and at a very good price ― three times. The offer was so good I could not wait for your permission. Forgive me.”
Father got up and beamed, “Oh my God” said he, “Poor fellow, only yesterday he had done the purchase. his house had caught fire.”
He now joined all the bystanders who are enjoying the rescue operation.
After all a house on fire is a sight to be seen.
Then the second son comes running, and he says to the father, ” Oh Papa! But it’s still ours. That man couldn’t arrange the full amount. We have received only a token amount for the sale. Now, I have serious doubts whether we will get the rest of money.
His heart raced again. And he clutched his heart again. “Oh my my! It’s still ours.”
… So whose house caught fire ?
And then the third son arrives and says, “Don’t you all worry. I’ve just collected rest of the amount. Probably the fire must have started when I was half on the way.”
And everybody was happy and smiling again.
A house on fire is a lesson to be learned.
Our own narrative of an event decides the pain and pleasure that we feel, not the disaster.
