What is the distinction between Recognition and Appreciation ?
As I understand it,
RECOGNITION is a positive feedback based on our good results.
…
( Of course it has got to come from the TOP DOWN for it to really have weight and merit. )
…
and in a FAILURE we can at least APPRECIATE the effort and dedication of our staff.
Unfortunately our system is so focused on performance and results that
” when you fail there is no one to APPRECIATE your efforts.“
Yet we should APPRECIATE some one in spite of his FAILURE. We can appreciate the EFFORT, the SKILL and the PERSON in spite of the failure and accountability.
…
A study from the University of Berkeley finds that
.. “when people felt recognized for the good work they did, they were 23 percent more effective.”
But when people are appreciated for their efforts even if they have failed, they succeed 43 percent more.
There was a 20 percent increase in productivity.”
So Appreciate, Care and Value your employees.
And finally in our Medical lingo:
“When one person appreciates another, the Serotonin level increases in BOTH. It makes them both physiologically BETTER.”
( Serotonin is our feel good hormone.)
