Then the street vendor while balancing one kg potatoes on a scale for you, innocuously asks ,”sir, What is your speciality ?”

So you go back to your almamater for 3 more years to add one MD (anaesthesiology) degree to your name for the street vendor’s sake. You are thirty now.

As you approach the operation theatre proudly, you scan the tenure board in the scrub station.

But there is not a single anesthesiologist there.

There are
pediatric anesthesiologists,
cardiac anesthesiologists,
obstetric anesthesiologists,
neurosurgical anesthesiologists, and many others even you don’t recognize.

So you go back to the prep school again for a fellowship at the age of 30 and come back 6 years after with a super specialist quotation added against your name to the same scrub room again.

You are received by a nurse matron. She is a specialist operating room nurse and is on a fellowship program in pediatric surgical nursing.

The student-surgeon you will work with today is a not a so young surgeon.

He was your senior in school and was already a surgery post graduate when you are studying undergrad.

He had been studying cancer surgery when you were doing your first specialisation. Since then he had done a fellowship in endocrine cancer surgery.

Now he is ultra specializing in endocrine cancer surgery only in pediatrics.

So today three students s have got together to remove a cancer of endocrine gland of a young child.

Gone were the days when the good old country doctor would take your BP, Drain your pus and deliver a baby and treat both mother and child. He always had something up his sleeves for every members of your family including your pets.

Days have children. The 13th edition of WHO classification describes at least 13000 diseases that can incapacitate you and hospitals have 10000 procedures to counter them. Still short by 3000.😄
