The board of selectors looked suspiciously at the bald headed bespectacled erudite looking candidate. It was the full board of a fortune 500 health care organization. All the members in the panel were neo rich, expensive looking gentle men in their mid 40s.
“how old are you?”
“50”
“Do you have any managerial experience in your previous job ?”
“No, I was studying.”
All the eye brows were shot up at once. Silent looks exchanged. He added quickly,” I have completed my DM after MD in medicine. Before that I had a spell of Senior Residency in the ( a very prestigious ) hospital for 4 years.
“Look the company policy says the retirement age is 54.” said the only lady panelist.
“She must be in her thirties.” He thought “but she can straight away walk into the sets of a Hindi movie.”
” well, you will be on probation for 2 years . You will get a fixed amount till then. But after the probation, your pay package will be linked to the revenue generated by you.”
” Hire him” the chief thought. “Such people have the habit of carrying out the most rigorous and monotonous job on this earth without looking at the perks and privileges of others. He sure will be the most discipline blind worker who will never mediate with company management.’
“Better to consult the advisor at least once before taking the call.” said the boyish looking millionaire on his right.

The founder member of the company is in his early 50s and a medical drop out. He was unable to master the science of healing 25 years ago. Instead he has tactfully converted a failing nursing home in a rented house into the biggest chain of health facility on this part of globe. Thanks to his art of billing, it has become the first Nasdaq listed hospital chain of the country and monopolizes 50% of the market share in the health care. As per his own rules, he has retired from the active management but still continues as an honorary advisor with the fattest perks. On that day he was far away somewhere in his private Yatch on the Bahama’s coast. An encrypted message was sent to his private mail seeking advice.
Pat came the sermon, “A DM degree has a Zero value in the front line of our hospital. Put him on the billing section. His degree is the best bet in manipulation of treatment record of our corporate clients and will be an windfall in our earning there from.”
The advice was an instant hit among the millionaire board members.
The chief said officiously,” Er.. Doctor, we have a position open in our finance. strict Nine to five job. The post carries higher remuneration, productivity linked bonus & other perks commensurate with senior managers. your package will be 10 times what you will get now.”
The bald looking erudite scholar was horrified ,” No sir, please I will prefer a clinical post in my field even if the pay is less.”
” You will be put on roster duty, and under probation. After 2 years if you can not meet your target you may have to leave.” pronounced the chief.
The interview was over.
